Clearing brush in Twain Harte
Twain Harte is in the mixed conifer belt that the county's 2024 wildfire plan puts above about 3,000 feet: ponderosa and sugar pine, incense cedar, white fir and black oak. Cabin lots here are often steep and close together, so most of the work is by hand. We cut out the brush and young trees, lift the limbs, and rake needles back from walls, decks and stairs, where CAL FIRE asks for nothing that burns.
The town center is mapped Very High fire hazard in the State Responsibility Area. Zones change parcel by parcel, so check your address. Twain Harte is unincorporated, so the state's 100 feet, checked by CAL FIRE's Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit, and [[/defensible-space-rules-sonora#county|Tuolumne County's Chapter 8.14]] both apply. The town's own Community Services District, formed in 1996, runs the fire department, water and sewer, and the county's wildfire plan says it assesses vacant properties every year, so an empty lot here needs lot clearing too.
There is no transfer station in Twain Harte, and curbside garbage is Waste Management. Green waste can go to the Plainview site on Highway 108 at the top of the Twain Harte Grade, open Tuesday to Saturday for a fee, or we chip it on site, with the dump fee in your price. The town center sits just above the 3,500-foot line CAL FIRE uses for burning, so in 2026 burning stayed open here until June 15, three weeks longer than below the line.
