Brush clearing, defensible space and lot clearing in Sonora, CA

We do three kinds of brush clearing work in Sonora and across Tuolumne County: brush clearing, defensible space clearing, and lot and land clearing. One local crew does all three, often on the same visit. Most jobs get one written price before we start, some projects are done at a flat day rate, and we work in Calaveras County too.

Our brush clearing services

Each service has its own page: what is included, how the job goes and what moves the price.

Brush Clearing

Also called brush removal or clearing overgrown brush

Overgrown brush, manzanita, blackberry, poison oak and small trees cut down, then chipped, hauled away or stacked for a permitted burn.

For lots that got away, insurance letters and steep slopes.

  • Brush and undergrowth cut to the ground, on flat or steep ground
  • Blackberry and poison oak thickets cut and hauled (poison oak is never burned)

Defensible Space Clearing

The 100-foot fire clearance CAL FIRE inspects

The 100 feet around your house cleared to the state standard, zone by zone, with before and after photos you can send to your insurer.

For inspection notices, insurance letters and sales.

  • The first five feet cleared of dead plants, needles and anything that burns
  • Before and after photos, and a date set around your inspection

Lot and Land Clearing

Vacant lots, acreage, fence lines and fire breaks

Lots and acreage cut back before a weed abatement deadline, a sale or a build, plus fire breaks along drives, fences and outbuildings.

For vacant lots, acreage, weed notices and builds.

  • Fire breaks along driveways, fence lines and around barns, wells and propane tanks
  • Stump grinding, digging and grading with our Bobcat

Smaller jobs we take on the same visit

These are not separate services. Each fits inside one of the three, so it goes on the same written price.

  • Fire breaksCleared strips along drives, fences and pasture edges, and around barns and propane tanks.Part of lot and land clearing
  • Weed abatement noticesCity or county lots cut to the standard on the notice, before its deadline.Part of lot and land clearing
  • Pine needles and leavesRaked out of the first five feet, off decks and away from the walls.Part of defensible space clearing
  • Blackberry and poison oakCut and hauled. Poison oak is bagged, never burned or mowed.Part of brush clearing
  • Star thistleCut at early flower, before it sets seed, then raked up.Part of lot and land clearing
  • Trees and low limbsSmall trees taken down, and limbs lifted at least 6 feet off the ground.Part of brush clearing

Stumps and dirt work too

A brush job often turns up more work. We take it on in the same visit, so you are not waiting on a second company.

  • Stump grinding, and roots dug out where you want them gone
  • Digging and grading with our Bobcat
  • Moving brush, logs, soil and rock with the Bobcat

We do not spray. We cut weeds and brush and haul them away, and no herbicide goes on your ground. For a big tree that needs a climber, we recommend a licensed tree service.

Questions about our services

Not sure which one fits? Call us and describe what you see.

Which service do I need?

If you have a notice, an insurance letter or a sale coming, start with defensible space clearing. If the brush itself is the problem, it is brush clearing. If it is a vacant lot or open acreage, it is lot and land clearing. Not sure? Tell us what you see and we sort it out at the walk-through.

Can you do all three on one visit?

Yes. Many properties need a bit of each: the 100 feet around the house, the brush on the slope below it and a fire break along the drive. One crew does all of it on the same visit, and it all goes on one written price.

Are the services the same in Calaveras County?

Yes. The same crew does all three in Angels Camp, Murphys, Arnold, Copperopolis and the towns around them. The local rules differ: Angels Camp has its own weed code, for one. We clear to whichever rule applies at your address. Every town is listed on our Tuolumne and Calaveras service areas page.

Do you haul away what you cut?

Yes, if you want it gone. We haul it to the green waste site on Camage Avenue in Sonora with the fee in our price, chip it on site, or stack it for your own permitted burn outside fire season. Poison oak is always bagged and hauled.
